House to Work 5 Days a Week; Republicans Upset

Incoming Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is planning to have the House work more than the less-than-three-days-a-week schedule with lots of long holiday weeks the Republicans favored.

Under Republican control, the House Members' work week began on Tuesday evenings, with occasional votes held then, and ended on Thursday afternoons.

Now, they will begin work on Mondays and end on Fridays.

And Republicans are upset about it.

The Washington Post quotes Republican Rep. Jack Kingston (GA), who the Post says typically flies home on Thursdays and returns to work in Washington on Tuesdays, as saying "Keeping us up here eats away at families. Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families -- that's what this says."

As Bugs Bunny would say, "What a maroon!"
