Republican Roy Blunt Throws Bipartisanship Out in Statement

The #2 Republican in the new Congress, Whip Roy Blunt (Missouri), was re-elected to his Whip post for the new Congress, although he now will be Minority Whip.

Here's what he said in his prepared statement to the press after today's election:

“For twelve years, the Democrats have gotten away without leading, without offering an agenda, and without saying what they’re actually for. Now they will be forced to govern.

“Under this Republican leadership, the job of the Minority Whip will no longer be to go to the House floor every day and lose. Instead, each time we hold our team together and force the Democrats to vote like Democrats, we’ll be taking one more step toward recapturing our majority in 2008."

Forget about bipartisanship from the Republicans. Blunt is keeping them back in the bad old days under Tom DeLay.

Rep. Sekula-Gibbs' Seven Week Term Should Be Entertaining

Tom DeLay's replacement for the remaining few weeks of the current Congress -- Shelley Sekula-Gibbs -- is already acting even more arrogantly that old Tom.

She pitched a fit when she heard that Bush and Cheney would not be coming to her little party after her swearing-in ceremony.

She had her picture taken with soon-to-be-former House Speaker Denny Hastert practicing for the swearing in.

She announced she was going to make the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy permanent, reform our immigration laws and find a good solution for the war in Iraq -- all, apparently, in her remaining few weeks in office.

Then virtually her entire staff quit en masse because of the way she treated them. (Think about how bad she must have acted to cause them to quit like that.)

And now, despite being told that her computer files were scrubbed of DeLay's materials by an outside Congressional vendor, per usual practice, she claimed the recently departed staff had erased the records, saying they "brought shame to this office."

It seems to me she's the one who brought the shame.

Her antics will be fun to watch until she's booted out in January. But maybe by then she will have solved Bush's problem in Iraq.

Will the Memo Showing Fox News' Bias Against Democrats Gain Any Traction

The Huffington Post first reported the internal memo sent by Fox News's VP of News urging Fox reporters and producers to "be on the lookout for any statements from the Iraqi insurgents, who must be thrilled at the prospect of a Dem-controlled congress" and trashing newly elected House Democratic leader Steny Hoyer, referring to his race against John Murtha for the leadership post as "A former hawk v. a political hack."

Lots of blogs and Web sites have picked up the story. MediaMatters has a good piece. Hardball and Scarborough Country did pieces last night. Keith Olbermann had a great piece, posted on DemocraticUnderground.

I wonder what traction, if any, this revelation of obvious bias at Fox News will get.

Will folks just say "Yeah, I knew they were biased; now we have proof" and let it go at that?

Fox News fans likely will not think there is an issue to be discussed.

I'm Tired of Politics Today -- I'm Checking out DCBlogs

Since the morning after, I have been doing memos, holding conference calls, responding to e-mails and all the other things corporate lobbyists do after elections.

And I am tired of it already.

I'm going to spend some time checking out DCBlogs.

Many of us inside the Beltway don't like to admit it, but there is much more to Washington, DC than politics.

Rep. Rangel to Evict Cheney

Dick Cheney, not satisfied just to have his office in the White House complex and his office on the Senate side of the Capitol, where the vice president is the President of the Senate, also has been using the office on the House side of the Capitol that is designated for the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Rep. Charlie Rangel, who will become chairman of Ways and Means in the new Congress, is reclaiming the office, and booting Cheney out.

You know what they say about paybacks.

Congratulations, America. You Chose Wisely

A larger-than-anticipated majority in the House for Democrats is great.

But a Democratic majority in the Senate is even better.

It's too bad, but not surprising, that Republican George Allen is clinging to power, and won't do the honorable thing and concede defeat. America deserves better than him, and Virginia voters chose Jim Webb.

Vote Democratic Today

America deserves better than the Republicans in power now.

Republicans are trying every dirty trick in the book to keep you from voting them out. But don't be intimidated.

Vote for a positive change. Vote for improving America. Vote Democratic.
